Are Huskies Banned in Dubai? The Heat-ToleranceTruth (2026)

Every other week, somebody asks us on WhatsApp: “Are Huskies banned in Dubai?” The short answer is no, Huskies are not banned — but the longer answer is the one you actually need before you commit to one for the next 12 to 15 years.
We sell Siberian Huskies. We also talk a meaningful number of people out of buying one, because in Dubai's climate they're the breed with the highest gap between “Instagram appeal” and “day-to-day reality.” This article is the version of the WhatsApp conversation we wish you read first.
First the legal answer: not banned
Siberian Huskies are not on the Dubai Municipality banned-breed list. You can register a Husky with the Municipality, get the tag, walk it publicly, and travel within the UAE with it like any other dog. The breeds typically restricted in the UAE are certain fighting / guarding lines — Pit Bull-type breeds, Tosa Inu, Dogo Argentino, certain Mastiff lines — not arctic breeds. Always check the current Municipality list ahead of any purchase since the regulations can update.
Now the climate answer: harder than you think
Siberian Huskies were bred by the Chukchi people of north-eastern Siberia to pull sleds across the Arctic. Their double coat — a soft insulating undercoat plus weather-resistant guard hairs — is engineered for sustained outdoor work at temperatures below −40°C.
Dubai summers regularly hit 42–48°C ambient with ground temperatures pushing past 60°C on asphalt. That's an 80°C+ gap from what the breed was designed for. The coat does help — it insulates against heat as well as cold — but it can't magic away physics. A Husky in Dubai must live an indoor, air-conditioned life year-round, with outdoor activity rationed to dawn and dusk during the summer months.
What a Husky in Dubai actually looks like, day-to-day
- Indoors at 22–25°C year-round. If your AC goes off for more than a few hours during summer, your Husky is in serious trouble.
- Walks only at dawn (before 7 AM) and after sunset (after 7 PM) from May through September. No mid-day walks. The 7-second back-of-hand test on the pavement applies to every dog but doubly to this one.
- 60 to 90 minutes of structured exercise daily — split across morning and evening in summer. Indoor mental work (puzzle feeders, scent games, tug) makes up the difference.
- Daily brushing during October and April–May (the two blow-out shedding seasons in the UAE). Weekly the rest of the year.
- Never shave the coat. The undercoat is the insulation. Shaving removes the heat-reflection layer and the regrowth often comes back patchy or broken.
- Escape-proof garden / balcony / front door. Huskies are world-class escape artists. Fence height matters; latches matter more.
- Vocal. Huskies talk, howl, yodel, and grumble. If you're in an apartment with thin walls, your neighbours will know the schedule.
When to NOT buy a Husky in Dubai
- It's your first dog. We've placed enough Huskies in the UAE to know the rookie failure pattern: enthusiastic owner, underestimated grooming, summer routine slips, dog escapes, dog gets re-homed at 8 months. Start with a Golden, Cavapoo, or Maltipoo.
- You both work 9–6 with nobody home. A Husky alone all day in the UAE is a recipe for destruction and self-injury. Even with AC, the boredom + energy combo is unmanageable.
- You're in a studio or small apartment. Physically fine; behaviourally a stretch. The vocal piece alone usually trips neighbour complaints.
- You travel often. Huskies bond hard to their humans. Frequent boarding is more stressful than for other breeds.
- You expect “low-maintenance.” They're not. Beautiful and rewarding, but not low-maintenance.
When a Husky IS a great choice in Dubai
- You're an experienced dog owner who's had a working breed before.
- You have a villa with garden access and a reliable AC system.
- Someone is home (or can hire help) for most of the day.
- You can commit to the dawn / dusk walking schedule for the next 12 years without complaining.
- You love the personality (independent, talkative, theatrical, comedic) — Huskies are not Labradors in a fluffy coat.
If that's you, the Siberian Husky from a proper breeder, with the right early socialisation and a committed UAE-tuned routine, is an extraordinary dog. We have the bloodlines, we have the puppies, and we have the experience to set you up for success.
More climate-friendly alternatives
If the Husky look pulled you in but the lifestyle is too much for your situation, here are the closest climate-friendlier options:
- Samoyed — also arctic, similar wolfy look, gentler temperament, slightly more heat-resilient. Still needs the indoor lifestyle, but easier overall for first-time-arctic owners.
- Golden Retriever — completely different look but climate-proof, kid-friendly, and one of the best first dogs in any environment.
- Border Collie — high intelligence and drive (a Husky family will appreciate this), short coat handles UAE summer with less management.
- German Shepherd — large, intelligent, working-line option that handles UAE climate with managed walks.

WhatsApp our trainerFrequently asked questions
- Are Huskies banned in Dubai?
- No. Siberian Huskies are NOT on the Dubai Municipality banned-breeds list, and Huskies can be legally kept, registered, and walked in Dubai. Restricted breeds in the UAE typically include certain fighting/guarding lines (Pit Bull-type breeds, Tosa, Dogo Argentino, etc.) — not Huskies. Always check the current Dubai Municipality list before any breed purchase.
- Can a Husky actually survive Dubai summers?
- Survive yes; thrive only with a dedicated indoor lifestyle. Huskies are double-coated arctic breeds bred for sub-zero work. In Dubai's 42°C summers they need air-conditioned indoor living year-round, walks only at dawn (before 7 AM) and after sunset (after 7 PM) May–September, and constant access to cool water and shade. Owners who can't commit to that level of management should choose a more heat-tolerant breed.
- Should I shave my Husky in the UAE?
- No, almost never. A Husky's double coat actually insulates against heat — the undercoat reflects and traps cool air against the skin. Shaving removes that insulation and can permanently damage the regrowth. Brush daily during shedding seasons (October and April–May in the UAE), keep the dog indoors during heat, and let the coat do its job.
- Are Huskies good for first-time owners in Dubai?
- No. We routinely turn down sales of Huskies to first-time UAE families. Huskies are escape artists, vocal, high-prey-drive, and have grooming + climate needs that overwhelm new owners. Choose a Golden Retriever, Cavapoo, or Maltipoo as a first dog. If you're experienced and prepared for the indoor lifestyle, Huskies are extraordinary — just not as a first dog in this climate.
- How much does a Husky puppy cost in Dubai?
- Siberian Husky puppies in Dubai range from AED 8,000 to 15,000 depending on coat colour and bloodline. Rare patterns (agouti, pure-white, full-mask) price at the top of the range. Our prices include free UAE delivery, vaccinations, microchipping, and lifetime WhatsApp support.
- Do Huskies need a lot of exercise in Dubai?
- Yes — 60 to 90 minutes of structured exercise daily, plus mental work. In summer this has to be split across dawn and dusk plus indoor games (puzzle feeders, scent work, tug). A bored, under-exercised Husky will redecorate your apartment, escape the garden, and yodel through the night. Plan the routine before you buy.
- Are Huskies allowed in Dubai apartments?
- Legally, generally yes — but check your tenancy contract. Some buildings have weight limits (typically 20–25 kg) that exclude adult Huskies. Many newer pet-friendly buildings in JVC, Dubai Marina, Damac Hills, Saadiyat allow them. Always confirm in writing with the property manager before committing.
- What's a more heat-tolerant alternative to a Husky in the UAE?
- For the “wolfy look” without the heat misery, consider a Samoyed (similar arctic origin but slightly more heat-resilient and gentler), an Alaskan Malamute (only if you have a villa with AC) or — completely different but climate-perfect — a Golden Retriever or Border Collie. If you specifically want pale eyes + striking markings, the Australian Shepherd-style coat is impossible to replicate; the Husky is the only answer and you commit to the indoor lifestyle.
